I’ve just read this article in disbelief.
A young black boy has been pulled by his parents from a school play because the part he was due to play was a monkey. He was one of five boys that had chosen to play monkeys, three white boys and two black boys.
I think the most important point in this story which must not be overlooked is that the boys chose their parts themselves. They wanted to play monkeys, you show me the little boy that hasn’t at some point been fooling around being mischevious playing at monkeys or gorillas, jeez I used to play at cats and dogs when I was kid - it’s what kids do. This is in no way shape or form anything to do with racism, and it is the parents that pulled this boy from the play that are encouraging this particular racist slant, which by the way is usually exclusively used by brainless adults not seven year old lads.
Come on folks get a grip we can set a better example than this….the way forward would have been to allow and actively encourage the youngster, primarily for his development and confidence, but also to discount the so-called racist connotations and show that we are living in a society that is moving past all of that.
