Bloggers for Haiti

By Little Mummy, January 16, 2010 3:21 am

There is little I can say that hasn’t already been said. If find it very difficult to relate to the news and pictures and suffering of those so far away. However, I know what’s it’s like to be able to tuck my daughter up in a warm bed at night and I know how thankful I am to be able to do that, every parent should be able to do that, which is why I’ve donated to help purchase a shelter box, and why I’m now asking you to join me?

Bloggers for Haiti

Shelter have this survival box out, having been in the TA and Cadets myself this kit really appeals to me, it offers a practical kit allowing parents to provide warm shelter and potentially a smile to their children – something we all treasure.

The box contains amongst other things;

A ten man tent designed to withstand extreme weather conditions

A stove that provides heat and becomes the ‘heart of the new home’

Cooking and dining equipment to allow for a warm meal to be served to the family

The containers themselves can be used for various purposes but have been used as a waterproof cot for a small baby.

Thermal blankets provide warmth

And finally the box contains some drawing books, crayons and pens for children.

This box is full of quality items that allow the stronger family members to provide warmth and relative comfort to what is left of their family. Helping people to help themselves is one of the best ways we can help, and as a parent I know that given these supplies I could provide a temporary home for my family.

These boxes cost around £490, please donate at the Bloggers for Haiti page and help another parent look after their family.

Thanksgiving – Baywood Belles

By Little Mummy, November 28, 2008 8:44 am

There’s a lot of chitter chatter around the blogosphere about thanksgiving, giving thanks to family, friends, god etc…

Well I’ve caught the bug and I wanted to highlight a group of women who have been raising money for good causes in their local area for twelve years. The Baywood Belles is a good old-fashioned concert party based in Swansea, they entertain by singing, dancing and doing sketches at nursing homes as well as holding full blown concerts to raise money for their specially chosen good causes. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t just a charity thing these ladies have a crazy time together, you only need to see some of their shows to see they’re having a blast. They have drunken annual trips away and a rumour has it a reasonable portion of their rehearsal time is spent gossiping!

They’ve worked really hard over the past year, fundraising, finding a new rehearsal venue as well as producung their best sketches yet – chitty chitty bang bang and ‘bellesque’. They’ve featured in their local media and have become like celebs on the nursing home scene! AND they now have an online presence, their website has just launched and looks amazing, there are loads of pictures as well as a short piece on each member. Please go and check it out, and please sign the guestbook, they deserve the support, Christmas can be a lonely time for the elderly but one afternoon’s entertainment from the Baywood Belle’s is enough to cheer anyone up.

Thanks Baywood Belles – we need more of you :)
