Love

Erin spotted this Saami baby at the reindeer camp. Saami people are the indigenous people of northern Finland, and this baby is wearing their traditional dress and hat. Erin fell in love with her immediately, the exchange rate is not kind and she cost me nearly ?12 but you can’t put a price on love can you.

Gift Ideas for a Four Year Old Girl

I’m not feeling christmassy at all yet, so I hope that by assembling this list that I’ll start to get into the spirit! Here goes..

What to get for a four year old girl, I’ve had tons of stuff brought to my attention this year both by companies wanting to promote their wares and also by Erin wanting to promote her hearts desires.
Here’s a selection of the gifts I’ve been alerted to…
Erin loves Hello Kitty stuff and with our forays into sleepovers (!) this

Letters From Santa

Soon, excited children up and down the country will be waiting anxiously by their letterboxes; eagerly awaiting their Letters from Santa, courtesy of the NSPCC.
The NSPCC has worked very closely with their representatives in the North Pole over the last few months, and Santa has decided to send personalised letters to every child on the ?Letters from Santa? list!
For a suggested donation of ?5, a letter will be personalised and placed upon Santa?s sleigh for delivery over the Christmas period to a child (or big kid!) that?s special to …

Young Entrepreneurs Should Check Out 56 Sage Street

I love anything that encourages the entrepreneurial spirit among the young folk and if I was 15 again (don’t laugh) 56 Sage Street would be right up my street.
Check out the brief overview below, the gist is basically to survive your first few weeks and build up your credibility to a point where Mr C (who sounds a bit like Alan Sugar) gives you his empire to run. Looks to me like a cross between a classic survival game and The Apprentice with a bit of Tycoon thrown in …

It’s the little things.. Thanks Liz!

I was just upstairs getting dressed when I heard Erin squeeling (with delight). The postie had been and she was shouting up that it was a parcel, and it was for her.
I shouted down that not every parcel was for her, and she told me this one was as it had her name on it! She spelled out the name ‘E’ ‘R’ ‘I’ ‘N’. She’s learning to read at the moment and she was equally excited to receive a parcel and to be able to identfy it …

It’s Chriiiiiiiiiiistmas!

Ok, so not quite… But it’s time to start thinking about buying the presents isn’t it?
We have this thing where because Erin’s birthday is in February she always ends up with tons of toys during that period and then very few outdoor toys for summer. Every year I say I’m going to get her outdoor stuff or postpone some present buying until the summer months but I never do! Is this the year?
Here are a few outdoor toys from Tesco that I have my beady santa-like eye on…

I …

Take Your Vitamins (in moderation!)

I was approached by a PR company this week to feature a new video about vitamins and Haliborange. It brought back childhood memories of vitamins.
The story takes place in Cardiff. It was the Summer of 1990 and we lived in this really cool bungalow that had a ‘secret garden’ and I had a wash basin in my room, I thought I was the coolest girl in the world (none of this has anything to do with the actual story by the way). One sunny afternoon my brother …

?50 Back To School Giveaway!

It’s been a while since I had a giveaway. So let’s do this!
Matalan have a great range of Back to School clothes in tons of different styles. I know we’re all back to school now and everyone’s already done their uniform shopping but if there’s one thing I’ve learned as the newbie school mum this year it’s that you can never have enough, and stockpiling is wholly recommended
So who wants (needs) an extra ?50 worth of schoolwear from Matalan? That’s right I have ?50 of …

The Gallery: First Lunch

So on Sunday 29th August I had plans to go to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh. I was going to take lots of photos and choose the best one to submit to Tara’s Gallery – this week’s theme was to publish a photo you’d taken on Sunday 29th August 2010.
I didn’t go to the festival as planned and I only took one photo that day (completely forgetting about The Gallery). That photo is below;

Erin’s first lunch at school!
This actually turned out to be a very poignant …

A Photo I’m Proud Of

I’m a lucky mum, Erin makes me proud a lot. But some days just stand out above all others. I’ve never felt the way she made me feel on her first day at school. I was literally bursting with pride, it was an incredibly special moment that I will treasure forever. I don’t expect to ever feel that way again, maybe except on her wedding day (although thankfully that’s a long way off!). Thank you Erin.

It’s parenting, but not as I knew it…

A while back I started a blog on entrepreneurship and business. I felt that I couldn’t really talk about those topics on Littlemummy.com as it ‘diluted’ the content which I felt should be predominantly about parenting.
I feel that as a result I now have two blogs, neither of which are a true reflection of who I am. In retrospect I also didn’t consider that being a parent is more than just days out and big events like starting school, it’s about how it changes you as a …

Sun Safety Four Year Old Style

Picture the scene: I’m in the bath trying to have a quiet soak when Erin barges in, not an unusual event, in fact it would be a fecking miracle to bath alone without the dog, the child or the husband wanting something. I try hard to ignore her presence but she starts ‘mumming’ at me. I look up to see evidence, her face is red, I look down and her hands are red…
Me: Why are your hands red?
Erin: [ignores me]
Me: Why is your face …
