Do you know a special mum that deserves to be recognised? Of course you do, us mums are fab *cough* and I bet someone special sprung to mind straight away.

Tesco’s Mum of the Year nominations are now open. Simply fill out the details of your special mum here – Nominate your mum of the year

Tesco are especially looking for mums who have;

made a difference

done something great for their community

raised money for a good cause

inspired kids to achieve through sport

built up a business that helps others

campaigned for change

who deserve special recognition

Last year’s ‘People’s Choice Mum of the Year’ struck a chord with me as my brother is a soldier and has served in Afghaniston. Karen Upton showed great courage after losing her husband, while many would quite acceptably have fallen apart Karen went on to focus her grief on raising money for the Army Benevolent Fund. Here’s a bit more about why she deservedly won her Tesco Mum of the Year Award;

‘Brave’, ‘inspirational’ and ‘amazing’ are just some of the words you used to describe Karen on our Facebook page for the time she has devoted to helping bereaved families.

In July 2009, Karen’s husband Sean was tragically killed in action in Afghanistan. She was devastated by her loss but managed to channel her grief into something positive by supporting other widows through the Forces Children’s Trust and also raising money for this charity as well as for the Army Benevolent Fund.

As a regional coordinator for the Trust, Karen has set up events including pamper days and an 80-mile bike ride to raise all-important funds for the charity to help children who have lost a parent serving with the Armed Forces. She’s even producing a calendar to raise money for both the Trust and the Army Benevolent Fund.

She’s inspired her children Ewan, 11, and Hollie, eight, to get involved too ? last year Ewan completed his own bike ride for the Afghan Appeal.

So have you decided who you’ll nominate? Nominate here now before 23rd September and have your special mum recognised.

Whats changing…?

Em, where to start really, I’ve been working a lot on Project 500 as well as the freelance project that kicked off in January (lots more to come on this). I’m working on updating this blog and getting articles on Bukisa, because I plan to get this blog back to parenting and start a new blog (more on that later). Also I plan to cull a few other projects. I know this is all very vague, but all will become apparent soon

In the meantime, if you read littlemummy for the parenting stuff then I’ll be back soon. If you are one of the new subscribers interested in working from home/making money/email newsletters etc etc watch this space, my new blog is coming!

Okay, I hope that explains things a bit, be back soon!
