Falkirk’s not the first place you think of visiting when you’re planning the summer holidays. We were invited by Visit Falkirk to experience some of what Falkirk has to offer and were pleasantly surprised. In fact we’re going back next week to do some of the things we simply didn’t have time for. The first attraction we visited was The Falkirk Wheel, the world’s only rotating boat lift.
Facts about The Falkirk Wheel
The Falkirk Wheel area boasts two children’s parks, a water park and an adventure playground. There’s also the visitor centre, an ice cream van and areas to have a picnic. There’s also the boat ride itself if you want to experience the wheel for yourself.
Our verdict was that it was a lovely area and we’ll definitely return to explore the parks. The wheel was an experience we’re glad to say we’ve done but we thought it might be a bit boring for younger children – our advice is if you have kids that are really interested in science and engineering then take them on the Falkirk wheel, if not then watch from the sidelines as it’s fascinating to see the lift in operation.
The countdown is also on for The Helix, the newly developed area between Grangemouth and Falkirk will offer places to cycle, walk, sail and more. 41 days and counting!
