Sky Ride Edinburgh: A Great Day Out

We’re just back from a great day out at the Sky Ride held at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh.

The Sky Ride aims to encourage everyone to get on their bikes and by the looks of the crowds they were succeeding. There was a great blend of amateurs (us!), professionals, families and lots and lots of children.

Supporting the event were the sponsors Sky, British Cycling, Cycle Scotland who were hiring out bikes, our local hero Sir Chris Hoy and the lovely Edith Bowman.

After collecting our bikes we had the opportunity to meet Chris and Edith, Erin was really excited and a little bit starstruck – they’ve been doing lots on the Olympics at school. We also had a bib signed that our own Uncle Chris has offered good money for but Erin refused point blank. Last I saw she was clutching it to her chest in her room.

The route ran right around the perimeter of Holyrood Park with an additional Duddingston loop for the really fit. We cycled as far as Erin could manage on her stabilisers before heading back for cake and coffee. Erin got her face painted, complete with bindi.

There were BMX displays for all the family to enjoy and Disney Junior and Art Attack tents where the kids could decorate their bibs.

It was a really well organised day full of good family fun and fitness. I would definitely go to another. Find out more about Sky Rides in your area here.
