Edinburgh During the Festival

It’s not just the Olympics that are taking place during August, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is well underway too.

Erin and I headed to George St, not usually the centre of festival antics – they are usually saved for the Royal Mile or The Mound but it seems to have had a middle age spread (it’s been going a while!). We found a great little market on Castle Street selling Spanish, Chinese and German street food. There were also craft stalls selling, amongst other things, hand painted glass coasters and handmade wooden decorations.

Back on George Street there was a large open air bar, and down onto Hanover St we spotted Chris Hoy’s golden postbox.

The Mound was hosting some live singers and another market. Princes St was packed with picnickers and Princes Mall had the trampolines out.

The atmosphere in the centre of Edinburgh is great at this time of year, well worth a visit.

We were there for a week this time last year. Sad that we couldn’t return this year but definitely something we want to do again next year. The kids, big and small, loved it!

It’s even bigger this year, there’s stuff on George Street and Castle Street. Town is buzzing. Erin’s been enjoying the markets.
