I took great delight in seeing the pleasure children had from growing self esteem, sometimes in children who were lacking in self-confidence in other activities. It is`nt a cheap hobby like you say, but when they enjoy it, it can help make a big difference to their whole lives. It really is time and money spent worthwile. My daughter did it briefly a few years ago, and enjoyed it. Like you say it isn’t a cheap hobby. We’re currently debating what activity she might take up here as we have only recently arrived in England.
