The summer holidays are now in full swing and I’m sure you are either loving not having the rush and tear of the school run each morning, or you can’t wait to get back to the routine that school life brings.
Either way you are more than likely already starting to think about the children returning to school for the autumn term and for some of us this is a daunting proposition. So here is Littlemummy’s guide to a stress less return to the school run.
Preparation is the key.
You may well be only 3 weeks into the summer holidays but it is never to early to start preparing for the return to school. Start buying your schoolwear now and if money is an issue, buying it bit by bit will have less of an impact upon your budget.
Shop around for bargains.
Have a look around for offers on back to school items, including larger items such as laptops. This is the best time to buy these as they usually have some huge reductions. The same goes with smaller items to, rucksacks and stationary, all will have some great offers on so stock up.
Set the routine early.
Rather than getting stressed as soon as the school term starts, start to introduce the routine in the last week of the holidays. Make sure the bedtime routine returns so the children will be less tired and plan some activities that mean you need to be out of the house at a similar time to the school run. This way it will be less of a shock when they do go back.
Get organised.
To reduce stress levels in the mornings, try and prepare everything you need for the children’s school day the night before. Make the packed lunch and put it in the fridge, lay out the uniform out ready to be put straight on and set the table with breakfast pots and cereal so they can sit straight down to eat. Giving you more time each morning to relax and enjoy spending time with your children before they go off to school.
