Princes Street: Top Destination for Shopping in Edinburgh

If you are visiting Edinburgh, be it for a weekend getaway or a longer stay, you will no doubt venture on to Princes Street. Being one of the major thoroughfares in this magnificent city, it is also the main shopping street.

Not only does the street boast most of the major high street names such as Marks and Spencers, Boots, Debenhams, Topman, Topshop and Next, it is also home to the Princes Street Gardens, containing the Ross Bandstand which is an open air theatre that is a memorial to the US soldiers of Scottish descent as well as many other attractions including a fantastic children’s play park.

Princes Street is one of the only high streets which has a Parlimentary order placed on it to prevent further building on the south side to preserve this area as an open vista. The south side is left open to give stunning panoramic views of the Old Town, Edinburgh Castle and the valley that runs between them.

As well as these stunning views and great shopping, Princes Street is scattered with historic monuments and statues including a monument to Sir Walter Scott. It is also home to the National Gallery of Scotland, a must see for everyone visiting this amazing city.

So not only is Princes Street the best place to go shopping in Edinburgh, it is also a great place for culture and history, so pop along and see what you can find.
