On our second day in Boston we decided to go shopping. First stop a hearty breakfast at Thornton’s. Alex had a breakfast bagel, I had poached eggs with home fries (spicy potatoes) and rye bread. We loved the Kitsch plates!
After breakfast we walked to the start of Newbury Street, one of the main shopping streets in Boston which had been likened to ‘fifth avenue’ to us. We were a bit early for the shops as I’ve been waking up at ungodly hours (still on British time!). We hovered outside the …

We love to bake, so getting sent baking kits is a great bonus. It’s not that long since cupcake week, and now it is National Baking Week and we’ve been trying out some of the Home Baking range from Asda. D, 9, loves to bake, and is good at mixing and making, but often needs help with measuring. With this range she’s been able to come up with some great results without too much trouble and minimal input from me.
We started with the chocolate tray bake, …

Finally our Boston and NYC trip is here! The trip is for Alex’s 30th which is in December. We left the house at 5am and arrived in Boston at 1.30pm, losing five hours on the way. We flew via London Heathrow which was eventful as the gate printed on our boarding card ended up being totally different to the ‘actual’ boarding gate which was at the other end of the terminal. This led to us having to jog the shuttle transit route below ground (the plane was already boarding!) as …

For as long as I can remember, at any special occasion be it a birthday, wedding, christening and of course at sad times too, such as funerals and illness, flowers have always been a big part. This have often made me wondered why we send flowers as a token of love, sympathy or appreciation?
Is it because our senses are very powerful and usually what we use to guide us? Such as when we smell a certain fragrance it can transport us back to a specific occasion or …

We’ve all heard the word innovation bandied around but what does it really mean and why is it so important to a business?
In a nutshell innovation is progress. It’s taking an opportunity or idea and bringing it to market in the form of a product, service or improvement. However innovation isn’t just amazing new inventions and never seen before gadgets. Some of the most innovative innovations are the ones that take an existing idea and improve on it in a way that nobody had even thought of …

Do you ever just wish you could wave a magic wand and make your life better, easier really? Course you do, we all do, we all long for that Harry Potteresque hardware that will bring us the peace and happiness we so desire. But the wand isn’t just lying on the table ready for us to pick up and wave around with all the abandon of balloons at a children’s party, it always seems like there is too much to do, too little time, and what the hell, you …

This isn’t a recipe but it was so tasty I thought I’d blog it anyway. Instead of a usual tomato base I roasted a chicken and shredded it into a bottle of budweiser barbecue sauce and the chicken juices. I spread a layer of the barbecue chicken over the base of the pizza then added mozarella, bacon and onion. Not exactly healthy but it tasted good!

The rumours have begun. There’s mutterings on the bus and in the school playground is rife. It’s starting in October and won’t end til April next year. It’s going to be three times as bad as last year one person told me. A neighbour has been reminding us to ‘tool up’.
It lasted for three long months last year and this year I’m planning for the worst. The snow is coming and it’s going to be worse than ever. Not that pansy frost they get down in Wales and Engerland, no …
