Making Money from Your Baby Clutter
Guest Post
Taylor is 9 months old already and I?ve just done the big declutter. It?s amazing how much stuff we have accumulated that we won?t use again. Time to make room for all the weird and wonderful toys and what not that he?ll be using during his next stage. If I make some money at the same time then that?s a bonus!
Facebook Buy & Sell Groups
These are new to me but I recently discovered two local groups where people upload pictures and info along with whatever price they are wanting ? for free! Being local makes life easier as you don?t need to arrange postage or similar, but can arrange local pick up or delivery. Basically it?s freecycle without the free bit!
Ebay
Oh yes, Ebay! To be honest I avoid Ebay unless I have a high value item that is more likely to sell there. Postage costs can be prohibitive nowadays which puts people off. And don?t get me started on the fees. That said, on a free listing weekend where you can set your item for local pickup only, it can be worthwhile.
NCT sales
Now I haven?t sold at one of these yet but I?ve bought and bagged some fantastic bargains. I believe that the NCT take 30% of your sale price which may sound excessive but you can guarantee that there will be a lot of bargain hungry parents and parents-to-be be there with purses and wallets at the ready. Having not sold I can?t recommend this personally but I know many people who have sold and have done very well out of it!
Local paper / shop windows
Somewhat antiquated but effective! For a ?1 a week in a shop window, or a little more for a classified listing in the local paper you can sell your items. Brilliant for larger items or more expensive / rare ones that you want picking up rather than messing about with postage or couriers.
You can often advertise baby / children items on health visitor waiting room noticeboards and the like ? for free!
Decluttering doesn?t just mean having a throw out- it?s a golden opportunity to make some cash and with growing children it?s an ideal way to get rid of the old and pay for the new!
Do you have any other ways of making money from your decluttering?

I never thought about the Facebook buy and sell groups, I must check that out. Netmums Local boards can be a good place, although I’ve often struggled to get a response – even when I’m responding to peoples’ wanted posts. My biggest problem has been trying to rehome vests and babygros. I have just found someone in need of some on Freecycle, not exactly money making, but if they genuinely need them, they are welcome.
