100 Things: Eat Five a Day for 30 Days

10 August 2011 One Comment

Today is Day 1 of my 30 day challenge to eat five pieces of fruit or veg for 30 consecutive days.

The challenge is number 36 on my 100 Things list so I’m totally committed to sticking to it and crossing another thing off my list.

What’s the challenge?

The challenge set by myself, is to eat five portions of fruit and veg every day for thirty consecutive days. I won’t be weighing the portions or using any fancy method to quantify what a portion is as this is supposed to be fun. I’ve already created my 30 day menu which includes all my fruit and veg, so it’s just a case of following the plan (she says!)

The Rules

1. Eat five portions of fruit and veg a day
2. Allowed to eat what I like as long as the fruit and veg part of the meal plan is consumed first
3. Keep a food diary of everything consumed over the 30 days
4. Juice can only account for one portion per day
5. Each portion must be a different fruit or veg. The only exception is where a fruit or veg is served raw or cooked, then it can account for two different portions.

Why?

They say it takes 30 days to form a new habit and I think eating more healthily is a good habit to try and form. I’m also keen to try a different diet and see how it affects my crohns disease and also my weight. The purpose of the 5 a day challenge is not to lose weight but hopefully it will be happy a bi-product :)

Being accountable

I’ll be keeping myself accountable by blogging my progress here, which is where I account for everythingelse I do! I won’t be updating every day on this but I’ll be logging how I’m getting on and my food diary as I go, which just leaves me with today’s food diary – by the way part of the reason for logging the food diary is so that if by some miracle I lose a lot of weight I’ll create a PDF for myself so that I can use it again when I feel like I’m getting a bit podgy!

Day 1

Two coffees and blueberry muffin
Glass of cranberry juice
Mushrooms on brown toast
Melon and grape fruit salad
Roast pork belly with apple sauce and carrots
