Born to be Wild 3D
by Mum in Meltdown
I had a great opportunity on Tuesday evening to attend the PR screening of Born to be Wild 3D at the BFI IMAX London, courtesy of www.littlemummy.com.
For those of you who haven?t heard about or seen it yet, this film documents the story of orphaned orang-utans and elephants and the extraordinary people who rescue and raise them. It transports you to the lush rainforests of Borneo with world renowned primatologist Dr. Birute Galdikas, and also across the Kenyan savannah with the celebrated elephant authority Dame Daphne Sheldrick. As a total bonus it is narrated throughout by Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman.
I attended with a friend and really had no preconception or idea of what to expect. We arrived at IMAX and were greeted and directed up to the waiting lounge, where there were huge projected photos on the wall and an area with merchandise being sold on behalf of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, including information on adopting an elephant!
Too cute, and that’s not me I’m talking about!
We were then asked to take our seats and were handed our very attractive and obligatory 3D glasses, an absolute must have for all you fashion guru?s out there. Please do not be jealous, to get your own just attend a 3D film!!!
I can see you?re jealous already! BTW I wasn’t ?served? as it says on the back of my seat but in a ‘reserved’ seat!
We then had a short introduction by Dame Daphne Sheldrick herself explaining how the film was put together and how she hoped it would highlight the plight of these animals. The film itself was only 40 minutes long and to be honest I could have sat through a lot longer. It was funny, entertaining and a true heart warming adventure. It highlighted the remarkable bond that can exist between humans and animals, and was an inspired story of love and dedication. With the added bonus of Morgan Freeman narrating it was like eating Galaxy chocolate, the voice was cool, creamy and totally put me in a state of relaxation!
The 3D effect was like nothing I had seen before and I have seen a few 3D films. It gave you a real sense of actually being there, like you could almost reach out and touch the animals. They were both, cute and cuddly, funny and extremely childlike and completely endearing. To the point I really wanted to take all of them home!
Afterwards we were treated to ice cold ?champers? whilst we were entertained by African dancers and drummers who were just fantastic and set a real atmosphere. With a bit of mingling and chatting and a little more ?champers? our evening came to an end.
This photo does not do them justice, it was very loud and they were incredibly energetic!
I can say I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely be taking my family to see it on its release at BFI IMAX London on Friday 17th June or at London?s Science Museum IMAX on 2nd July. I would urge you all to do the same as children of all ages would enjoy this as well as adults, young or old. So you now have no excuse not to see it.
Be warned I may take names and check up on you!
