Nine Things I Love About Online Grocery Shopping

23 February 2011 One Comment

I’ve been a long time advocate of online food shopping. Ever since we lived in a top floor flat with Erin I’ve religiously ordered my weekly shop online, so when Tesco offered me online vouchers to sell the benefits of online food shopping it was a no brainer!

I’ve been going through the same routine now for over five years, here are my reasons.

1. Save time

If I shop in person it takes me about two and a half hours. Half an hour to get there and back, an hour and a half going round the shop (and this doesn’t include going back for the inevitable forgotten item).

2. Save money

Each week I have a shopping budget, when I’m in the shop it’s very difficult to keep track of what you’re spending and I always overspend in-store. Online I just keep buying until I get to my budget.

3. Easier to use a list

Every week my routine is to create a meal plan, create a shopping list based on the meal plan and then do the online shop based on that list. It’s easier to shop online if you do this as there’s no fiddling with the list instore and it’s practically impossible to forget anything.

4. Special offers

It’s much easier to spot special offers online, there’s a tab at the top not just for special offers but it’s divided into ‘half price’, ‘multibuy’ etc.. I use this all the time to stock up on things I buy all the time.

5. Delivery

Maybe I’m lazy but I can’t be bothered humping all the bags in from the car, I love the fact that someonelse does this for me.

6. Substitions don’t cost more

If Tesco substitute one of my items then I pay the original price of the item I chose. This has resulted in me paying much less for both a larger ham and larger beef joint this year. Result!

7. Option to accept substitutions

I’m not obliged to accept the substitution I can decide at the point of delivery if it’s something I want to keep or not.

8. Money back freshness guarantee

When I tell people that I do all my food shopping online their main concern is that they like to go in-store so they can choose the best produce, well now they needn’t worry, anything that isn’t fresh enough can be given back to the driver and a refund is automatically issued.

9. Bag recycling

Give Tesco back any bags and they’ll recycle them for you.
