Autumn Menu: Sausage and Mash with a Twist

19 October 2010 2 Comments

I love cooking and eating in Autumn. In Scotland it’s cold in Autumn but not freezing, ideal weather for warming soups, rich stews and hearty pasta dishes. During October I’ll be sharing some of my favourite Autumn dishes, nothing fancy just ‘home food’ that I love. I’m no Delia Smith either so I hope you’ll forgive me my few cheats!

Sausage & Mash

This isn’t a recipe, just an Autumn meal I really enjoy. It’s sausage and mash but with a couple of twists.

Firstly the mash is cheesey mash, mash mixed with a handful of mature cheddar. The sausages have to be top quality, these were pork and leek tesco finest. I like to cook them til they’re practically burnt as the charred flavour goes well with the apple sauce. That’s right apple sauce, don’t knock it til’ you’ve tried it :)

Do you have any Autumn favourites?

Oh that just looks so yummy! That would certainly be one of my favourites but unfortunately (and I don’t know how) I have managed to breed 2 children who won’t eat mash, no matter how much or little I jazz it up. They are complete heathens. I want a maternity test!

Lol Debbie, my daughter doesn’t like cheese, I find that a bit strange.
