Toyology Part 2: Mixed Reviews

20 September 2010 2 Comments

I’m afraid this was a mixed box of goodies and I’m going to have to be brutally honest in places. Brace yourself…

We’ll go from cheapest to most expensive..

At ?7.99 (according to my infor sheey they’re ?7.99 but they seem to be ?8.99 on the Toys R Us website) it’s Disney Fairies Magic Glow Fairies
I’d class this toy in the ‘pocket money’ type section, however I feel it’a a bit overpriced and a bit pointless really. It’s not really seen the light of day since it’s first outing so it will be one that we’ll be donating to someone less fortunate than ourselves. A bit of a miss there. 5/10

Next up at ?9.99 Snazaroo Girl Face Paints

We’ve never had face paints before and these went down a storm. We’ve had two face painting sessions so far and I can say that I’m really impressed with the quality of the paints and most important, they do wash off with ease. My only gripe is that the set doesn’t include black?? Black features in nearly all of the ‘faces’ in the handy book (included in the set), what’s that all about? Bit of a fail on that score, but otherwise good clean fun at a sensible price. 7/10 (would have been 9/10 if set had included black!)

In the mid range at ?12.99 Thinkfun Zingo Game

Zingo is great for all the family where players have to fill their zingo cards with matching tiles from the Zingo Zinger card dispenser. The first player to fill their card wins!

We LOVED this preschooler friendly alternative to Bingo. Easy to set up, easy to play with hidden educational advantages. We’ve enjoyed several after dinner games and Alex and I have become quite competitive at it (between each other!). Highly recommended, especially for families with kids of differing ages, everyone can join in with this one. 10/10

Most expensive was Bendaroos Creative Centre at ?19.99

Have hours of creative fun with Bendaroos 2-in-1 storage and creativity centre, includes easy-to-use tools so kids can make amazing 3D model creations!

Must try and be polite. Ok scratch that, Bendaroos unfortunately are pretty naff. This set is overpriced, you’re pretty much paying for the ‘creative centre’ the wax strips aren’t in my opinion a good modelling tool as it’s very difficult to make anything out of them. Yes, they may be mess free but that’s useless if you can’t actually do anything with them! Disappointing, very disappointing. I’m afraid we can only give them 3/10, the ’3′ is for the excellent pair of scissors we’ve managed to use for other purposes. A waste of plastic, sorry Bendaroo.

Great to see such honest opinions, it really helps when out there in the toy shops not knowing what on earth to buy for little ones! I think the Disney Fairies would go down well with ‘dolly’ sorts of girls though, my Child Two would definitely have loved them

Yeah, I think they probably work better when you have more than one so that the kids can do their imaginary play.
