Don’t Forget Your Tax Credits!

26 May 2010 8 Comments

I love tax credits, who doesn’t love free money! The renewal pack is always a bit off putting but it’s worth it when you get your payment every four weeks. I’ve just completed mine, I always try and underestimate our earnings after getting caught out a few years back, I didn’t have to pay back in a lump sum but it seriously decimated my payments the following year.

If you need help completing your tax credits renewal watch the video below.

Five Things I’m Going To Spend Our Tax Credits On

1. BBQ Food

The door’s open and a bbq smell is wafting in, I feel like Homer Simpson. Mmmmmm barbecue. Oh, oh and marshmallows for the bbq too, or flumps, yeah flumps they’re the best.

2. US Dollars

More specifically dollars for daquiri’s, my trip to Florida is nearly here (again). My tax credits may bolster my daquiri fund, and erm, my souvenir fund too, obviously.

3. New Laptop

I’ll spend a wee bit of my tax credits on my new laptop and some new software I’ve been harping on about. What? You’ve got to speculate to accumulate.

4. Clothes for Erin

I nearly always buy Erin’s clothes from the tax credits. I bought her the coolest hat from Next the other day. Why do four year olds look uber cool in whatever you put on them?!

5. Days Out

Summer’s coming so I’ll definitely be using some tax credit funds on entertainment.

So, as you can see well worth claiming my tax credits ;)

What are you going to spend yours on?

You are so right, our tax credits are helping to fund the garage being turned into a playroom for the kids. It will be bliss! Mich c

Great idea! It does add up to quite a bit and shouldn’t be missed.

Our tax credits are a life saver, without them i could not afford to stay at home but could also not afford to work .

I get my tax credits weekly so they pay for emergency food cupboard supplies, pocket money, lunch money, school trips and ‘donations’ (I hate that on the school letter), petrol for the car, a take-away, and a bottle of wine.

I reckon the ?10 a week we get is blown on a whole bottle and a half of wine! I sure can’t afford a new laptop or clothes from Next. I use a hand me down Compaq from my MiL and dress the kids in Matalan and Primark’s finest… and not from tax credits – I doubt ?40 a month between three of them would keep them in charity shop clothes.

You must be too rich MrsW ;)

I think my overdraft would scare your hair white! Rich we are not, I’m just a non-person as far as the tax and welfare system is concerned, no job, no income, no money at all but I still have to pay for prescriptions and dental treatment and my tax allowance is sitting there doing nothing! I’m a chattel in every sense of the word with the same standing in society as a dependant child. It really stinks big-time – seriously I could become one ranting radical feminist pretty easily!

Since madame was born we have set up a direct debit and the child tax credit goes straight into her Child Trust Fund. We’re going to have to rethink this now that this programme has been abandoned. We won’t lose the money but there may be better places to invest it.
