What They Think of The Mum Blogger E-Course

24 May 2010 8 Comments

I’ve been invited to join in with The MAD’s carnival, which is a selection of posts from the finalists of The MAD awards.

We were asked to submit a post demonstrating what we’ve been nominated for, which proved a bit difficult for me as I’ve been nominated in the ‘Most Innovative’ category. I was going to write a post about how great the e-course is and how much I love it, but then I would say that! So instead I asked e-course subscribers to submit their thoughts, I kind of expected about half a dozen responses and had the idea that I would be able to publish them all. Well, almost immediately I received an avalanche of responses into my inbox and it feels wrong to choose certain responses to publish, and I wouldn’t want anyone thinking I was biased so I’ve decided to publish them all.

Every comment is very encouraging and I’d like to say thank you to everyone who responded, and everyone on the e-course, it really has taught me so much.

The Mum Blogger E-Course is FREE and even though it’s taken me a good five months to complete it will remain that way. I want this to be something that everyone can use and I hope that it lowers the barrier of anyone considering starting a blog.

Anyway, let’s get on with all these lovely responses *blush*

Nickie says

Erica’s Blogging e-course might be available for free but it’s definitely PRICELESS. Whether you know nothing or everything about blogging, there will be little gems tucked away in each part of the e-course. Also, because the course is sent by email, you have time to digest the information and try it out on your blog instead of being bombarded with technical jargon and wandering off feeling a bit bewildered. Try it and see.

Victoria says

The e course littlemummy set up has been a huge help to me. I am a bit of a technophobe but her clear and easy to follow advice has been a godsend – I actually understand it! I have learned so much and feel I now have confidence and knowledge to take my blog further. Thanks Erica!

Rosie says

Even though I have been blogging for a while, I have learnt a lot from Erica’s ecourse, in particular on the subjects of marketing and promotion, basic HTML and Search Engine Optimisation . As far as I am aware it is the first of its kind and I would recommend to anyone with an interest in blogging. It is comprehensive yet easy to read and written in manageable bite-size chunks.

Sandrine says

I don’t think I’ve properly thanked you yet for letting me subscribe to you blogger’s e-course.
I’m loving every instalment. I find that everything you say is not only useful but encouraging! And as a new blogger I certainly need all the encouragement I can get. So it feels a bit like I have an experienced blogger/ fairy godmother watching over my blog, and that is truly invaluable. I don’t believe this is something that has been done before – not many people give free advice these days! I hope you win! And thank you!

Karin says

I think that your e-course is very useful for beginner bloggers to “show them the ropes”. More advanced bloggers will probably find it a bit of a review but there are still things to learn or be reminded about.

Kelly says

Although I had been blogging for a number of years I signed up for the e-course out of interest and it taught me some interesting things, particularly in the area of promoting my blog. I would recommend it to any blogger, old or new. You never know what you might learn!

Charlotte says

I am now receiving the intermediate section of your E-Course and have so far found it to be really helpful. I personally haven’t benefitted from much of the the early section as I already knew how to blog, use WordPress and so forth and am also fortunate to have a techy husband but I can see that a new blogger would find it extremely useful and I have infact recommended it to numerous people just starting out in blogland. Despite this it was extremely useful to be reminded of certain things you forget once you have blogged for a while and to also tighten up some of the things I do to ensure they are more effective/interesting/useful.

What I have personally found so helpful is the little tips on etiquette, increasing readership and useful tips on making your posts useful. I loved the section on useful links. I have always used links but clearly not in the right way – that is now (hopefully) rectified.

I think this course is innovative as it is the only course I have seen like it, that is free, easily accessible and easily followable. I love the fact that it promotes community spirit in blogland and encourages everyone to work together and help each other. I think this is so important in any community. I love working alongside and with my fellow bloggers, that is what gives me the most pleasure from blogging.

I know that as simple and short as these course emails are they took a lot of time and effort and for that I am grateful.

You are definitely deserving of the title of most innovative blog.

Julia says

* Given me confidence that my blog is going to be done ‘properly’
* Helped me understand many of the technical terms
* Shown me things (like SEO) that will improve my blog
* I’m confident that I can ask the stupidest of questions!
* Responses to questions are forthcoming in a quick turn-around
* Until I started the course, I didn’t realise such support existed & free (you may not want to say that but it made a difference to me doing it!)
* When I started my blog, I was really ‘playing’. Now with the course I feel that I am part of an industry which I could extend should I want to earn money from it.
* It has shown me that ‘Mummy Bloggers’ are very talented & creative folk!

Susan says

I think the mummy blogging course is excellent. It helps not only beginners but even those a little more experienced, there is something for everyone to learn. As Erica says it’s the little things that make all the difference.

Maggie says

I wish I’d had the Little Mummy blogging e-course when I first started blogging. All those frustrating, head-scratching early days of trying to get to grips Blogger would have been so much easier with the help of this innovative e-course.

The e-mails pop politely into your in-box every week and, although I’ve been blogging for quite a while now, I found the early ones useful to clarify what I had discovered for myself, and they also highlighted things I had missed.

I find the e-mails well-written and the explanations clear and easy to understand. The most useful part I have found so far is the section about adding pages to your blog. I had seen this feature on other blogs and had not been able to work out how to do it myself.

I’m very much looking forward to the rest of the course, particularly the parts about promotion and marketing. The course is a great help for beginner bloggers, but it’s also a useful tool for more experienced bloggers too.

Melanie says

?Erica?s e-course emails are easy to digest, five minute nuggets of valuable information.?

Kathryn says

Erica’s e-course has helped me immeasurably since I started blogging. I have learnt how to do many things, including how to improve the look and content of my blog, to using media content and doing reviews. Thanks to her help I have managed to get my blog just outside the Tots 100 in less than 6 months, which to me is a massive achievement as I’m obviously up against some well established and well respected blogs. I can’t wait for the next course to start so I can learn more!

Antonia says

I think it is innovative because you?ve used everything you?ve learnt that helps you succeed to help other bloggers and would-be bloggers. It?s something that hasn?t been done before for the UK blog scene and is having a big influence.

Holly says

Erica’s ecourse has been invaluable in helping me navigate the rocky road of blog-dom. With her help I have a succesful blog and all her innovative hints and tips have really helped me make it engaging. Its even a finalist for “best looking blog” so thanks Erica!

Pamela says

First , i want to say thank you for a wonderful e course on blogging. It has helped to demystify blogging for me. I have always had the notion that blogging was something beyond me but with your ecourse i am now blogging.

I am not where i want to be yet but i will get there. If you can make it i believe i can too.

Marianne says

I am truly enjoying your e-course. It arrives in my inbox weekly and being such a busy twin mum I don’t always get round to reading it until a week later. I have kept them all in a file and go back to them as and when I need them. I didn’t choose to buy it all in one go because of my limited time on the PC but I think the price you are asking is perfectly reasonable and had I had more time I would have opted for the quicker version :)

The course is bumper packed with information, some I knew a little about before I started but the majority has broadened my outlook and helped me become more confident in what I am trying to do. I sometimes struggle to put your tips into action but this is my lack of knowledge and the fact I chose wordpress before starting which seems to not like Java (?) it makes for adding badges and widgets such as Network Blogs or Friend Connect very difficult for a novice with little time to mess about, such as myself.

Debbie says

I’ve only recently started dipping my toes into the world of blogging and Erica’s e-course has been a huge help. The course encourages you to take the plunge and dive in but with encouraging advice from the poolside.

Rebecca says

Your course has given me lots of useful ideas as to moving forward with my blog. The use of things like Smilebox to show more photos in one go has been brilliant.

I am trying to follow your idea of having a day a week for different aspects of blogging to keep me focussed and keep things fresh.

Sarah says

Yes I’d love to give you some feedback. I have to say that the e-course has been a fantastic source of reference for me. I thought I had small knowledge but the e-course has shown me that I am already doing a lot on my blog. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to other new bloggers and I think it’s fantastic to recieve a course in small chunks each week from someone who is teaching from experience. It’s free and it’s honest and my hat comes off to you – your not doing this for any gain other than it being another tool to readership, your doing it because your heart is in blogging!!! Keep it up!!!

Michelle says

As a new blogger I was baffled with all the different terminology and things to learn, I worried that maybe I might never gain enough knowledge to have a reputable blog. I was really pleased to become part of Erica?s e-course. This took me from the very basics and I am still learning something new each week when the next lesson arrives. Erica?s original thinking and pioneering way of presenting this course for free has been a God-send to me and loads of other new bloggers. Thanks very much Erica for all the hard work you have put in.

Louise says

I have found the e course extremely helpful, it is clearly written, concise and in a language I can understand! Being a total novice at anything web related I feel the course is a great tool to help me navigate the blog mine field.

Victoria says

My blog is in its’ infancy – around six weeks old – I know I sound like a Mummy I am ! I came across Google blogger which was mercifully easy but of course I was keen to explore the various possibilities and also discover the appropriate ‘blog etiquette.’ Reading the many amazing blogs out there has been enormous fun and very rewarding, however I did require real step by step guidance on how to navigate my way around. Then I came across Little Mummy ! Yippee ! I haven’t got the time or frankly patience to read through the online guidance. Erica presents her blogging course in concise very well written instalments, covering all the requirements. The course is also great as it is incremental – building skills at a time whilst not overlooking real basics. I needed help with a comment and Erica provided it. I have not seen anything else like this in the blogosphere and I think it is fantastic. There is also a great ‘real time’ feedback – if I am stuck I know I can email Erica and she will save the day.

Alicia says

I have blogged before but I still found your e-course useful. It goes into detail and is easy to read and understand. Well Done!

Chic Mama says

“I have found the resources given in the e-course to be especially useful, and have used them over and over again.”

Hari says

I just wanted to thank you so much for easing me down the slipway with blogging. I’d have been drowing in the deep water if you hadn’t come along at just the right time. Lessons on blog etiquette – fantastic. So much more useful than another tekkie blog that I need a translator for. I think that you have shown incredible generousity in sharing your knowledge so freely. You are building a community on great blogging values. Something I think you should post about. It’s certainly a spirit that encourages me to be active in blogging.

Jo says

When I first started blogging in December last year I didn’t have a clue where to start. Google ‘blogging’ and you’re sure to come up with millions of results, but how do you know what’s really useful, especially if you don’t know any of the jargon or techno terms?

The blogging e-course was perfect for me – it was simple, clear and easy to understand, and came it bite sized chunks that were just enough information for me to be able to understand, but not too much that I felt overloaded. I loved that it wasn’t just theory – in each lesson I could find at least one practical tip that I could put in place straightaway. It also seems to be unique in that it is tailored particularly for parent bloggers, so the information is very relevant and specific.

The e-course really helped me through those early weeks and months when I was finding my feet and helped me get to grips with those key questions – why am I blogging? how can I get people to read my blog? and what on earth is a meme?!?

Caroline says

I have been working through your course which is really excellent. It is thorough whilst being enjoyable. All of the solutions and suggestions you have put forward are great and I would recommend your course to anyone who was thinking of setting up a blog. Well done for having the spirit to create the course and for making it so interesting.

Kate says

Such useful advice arriving in my inbox each week has been fantastic. The weekly format has given just the right amount to implement or think about, and the broad spectrum of topics covered has been ideal. I didn’t manage to get myself going with the blog for a while after I signed up but it is easy enough now to go back through the emails a week at a time and start to put the advice into practice.

Jenny says

I actually started a blog just before joining the group as I did not realise that such a course existed. However, being new to the world of Mummy Blogging I am still finding my feet and there are still things I needed to know, so finding this e-course was very useful to me and for the future of my blog in terms of its content and layout.

I have subscribed to the e-course for 2 weeks now and have found it very informative so far. It is easy to follow and to understand and I feel that the layout and content of the course has been well thought out. I feel that Littlemummy.com has put an awful lot of her time into devising it, and you can tell how much she cares for her work and wants to help us new bloggers as it is very professionally presented. There has been no scrimping on the amount of information given. It is also easy to follow and the fact that she adds links to help explain what she is referring to is also very helpful in understanding the course content.

This is the first e-course I have undertaken and I am very pleased to have signed up because I can tell already that I am going to learn a lot from a very innovative Mummy Blogger. So from one newbie to one established blogger – thank you :-)

Amanda says

You definitely deserve to win the Most Innovative category. There are lots of reasons for blogs, but the main one is communication. And your blog, and the e-course, is helping people communicate by opening their eyes to the potential of their blog. They might want to monetise their blog, get more traffic, or just make what they write easier to subscribe to, and your course helps do all these things, in an easy-to-read, no-nonsense way. I’ve learnt a lot from it, and while I realise how much more there is to learn, I haven’t been left feeling terrified by my lack of knowledge and experience.

So… Your e-course offers a friendly way to realise the potential of communication via a blog.

Di says

I felt that Littlemummy?s e-course was very helpful and entirely innovative in its conception. It was easy to follow and covered every aspect of blogging for the ?newbie? like myself. It certainly helped to lead me through the labyrinth of technology, and she never failed to deliver!

Phew! So there you go, chuffed to bits with all that feedback.
