My opinion is that the best type of the first one is also the second! I bet that is as clear as mud. Sorry. A job that is good can be a good job too. x

I love my job, and I think it's a job that's good, and many would think a good job. But there's always something missing - I'd like more recognition and prospects (and of course money!), but I can't beat the job satisfaction and flexibility, so I can't really complain.

Best thing is my job allows me to spend time getting to know people and their skills and weaknesses, to satisfy my inner extrovert, but also to geek out to satisfy my inner introvert!

A job that is good is much more important than a good job, so long as the job that is good sustains the other important aspects of your life (e.g. there's no point working for free in a job you love if it means your family life suffers)

I agree with you, I think there's a difference too. I think a good job is one perceived by others to be rewarding, worthwhile and of acceptable status. I think a job that is good is one that the individual worker perceives to be good, which is based on their own values and beliefs, and so highly subjective. Just as well, otherwise we might all be after the same jobs!

Very philosophical indeed.. I have had both I think. I have been well paid and recognized, but it was hard work, it took 110% dedication and it wasn't really stimulating.

The thing is if I had realised that I wanted to be a mummy and have a flexible position, I wouldn't have taken the career route I did.

So, I am not sure at the moment what I want and what would be good!

Its a hard one this, I have what many people would perceive as a brilliant job. In fact people are queuing up to help me do it for free! However, after twenty years of doing it, ten in my current role, it would gladly give it up for one that is well paid, nice perks, and a bit of respect. In fact, I often wish I worked in the city earning mega bucks in a large corporation.
What other professional would be expected to drop everything they are doing and talk to a member of the public on the spot who has not so much even telephoned to make an appointment.
Oh, I really am an archaeologist and museum curator... moan, moan...
