Do Something Different Today

24 November 2009 14 Comments

If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.

I don’t know who originally wrote this but I think I read it on a blog, probably a few years ago now. We all moan about things like lack of money, poor behaviour of children or our lack of success at X but often rather than changing our behaviour to achieve a different outcome we blindly do the same things and then wonder why we aren’t making progress.

Whenever I’m feeling in a rut I remember this line and try and change my behaviour in some way.

When I’m lacking the courage do proceed with an idea, I refer to this piece of advice.

Unless you do something differently things will never change, you’ll always struggle to make ends meet, the kids’ behaviour will deteriorate and you’ll never achieve all you’re capable of.

Do something different today. You may be surprised by the result. I was :)

I took action on my wee e-course which as Rosie reminded me has been in the pipeline for about two years, and I’ve been overwhelmed with the response :)

You’re so right! I need to remember this when I’m moaning about not getting a pay rise or promotion when actually I’ve done nothing to deserve it! I will do something about that today.

Brilliant quote and very true. I’ve taken a step to do something different today by posting up a piece of my writing as part of the Wednesday Writing workshop!

Sorry, here is the right link to my blog. Duh.

I heard this quote a few years ago and it’s been one of my favourites ever since. No idea where it came from though! What I’ve found is that you don’t have to do something completely different – just a small change in the way you look at a challenge can make a big difference. Maybe posting a comment on a blog or stopping to chat to a neighbour you don’t know will lead to a new friend. All the little things really add up.

…and here’s the right link to my blog too, duh!

    Couldn’t agree more Helen :)
