Erin: I’d like one of the kittens in the case like X at nursery
[Santa's bag's getting pretty full]
Me: Oh well, maybe you should save up your pennies…
Erin: Oooh yeah, how can I get pennies
[sensing an opportunity to teach lesson about the value of money..]
Me: Well you could do some jobs
Erin: [Gives a blank look]
Me: You know, like how Daddy does his job for pennies
Erin: [Excited] Oooh, maybe I can borrow some off him then!
Errr, that went well then

Anyone been watching Benefit Busters?
I felt pretty sorry for the guy this week that got himself a job he clearly loved only to get laid off after only a week, just goes to show how bad the situation is for jobseekers at the moment.
After my jobseekers debacle I think this series is showing the system up. The couple of episodes I’ve seen have shown how the money available is not being distributed fairly, with some people admitting they’re paid too much and others saying how the longer you’re on …

Erin finally started nursery on Monday, she was due to start in April but the class was full so she was more than ready. On their first day they only stay for an hour which was a big dissappointment to her, it was difficult to drag her away, it was a beautiful day and she was happily playing in the garden. The teacher said she’d had a great time and that it was as if she’d been there for years! I couldn’t help but feel proud, it’s …

Sticky Fingers started this one off.
Here’s my five that I can’t live without.
1. Samsung NC10Notebook
I bought this in January after a few poker wins and never regretted it. It came to Disney twice, and has served me well as my main laptop all year. It’s so portable and has a seven hour battery life allowing me to blog here, there and everywhere. Read my full review here.
2. Baby Wipes
Since becoming a mum baby wipes have become the must have item in the home and on the move. …

It’s 11pm and my eyes are stinging, I started flagging at about 3pm. Wedding fairs (fayres?) are completely knackering. Today I accompanied my sister in law, mother in law, Aunty, and my sister in law’s mother in law to be….following me? My sister in law is getting married and this was her first (my second) wedding fair and we were out to gather some inspiration and ideas, we were treated to that, and a whole lot more
Our day started at 8.45am at waverley station, Edinburgh. …
Erin's Growing Up »
Only two days to go and Erin begins nursery. I’m trying not to sound too relieved, but I am. It’s been a long three years and we’ve had lots of fun and I’m glad that I did it (stayed at home)etc etc but I’m looking forward to a bit of freedom, the intensity of the school holidays has definitely worn me down a bit and I’m looking forward to the reprieve of having to provide endless activities and entertainment.
Her teachers came to visit this week introducing themselves and …

So it’s been a strange year, and post miscarriages I finally decided to rejoin the workforce. I set about finding myself a job about six weeks ago, and what can I say, I’ve never found it hard to get work but it’s tough out there. Very few jobs, poor wages and a zillion applicants, it’s all very depressing. In a eureka moment I suddenly thought that I may be able to apply for jobseekers allowance to make life a little easier until I found something, it’s only …
Travel »
So as you may have gathered I’ve been away, Erin and I took a last minute trip down south to visit my brother with my Mum. We flew down to Bristol on Thursday morning and collected our car, a Skoda Fabia in case you’re interested. Mum took an instant disliking to it, we’re both short so require a decent driving position, a lower dash and low pedals. The Fabia has a high dash, high clutch and brake pedal and a low accelerator, so not great.
Nearly Killed a …

This is a guest post by ‘mum of teens’
I thought, after becoming a Mother, that I was cured of my eating disorder.
Breastfeeding and the general wear and tear of motherhood meant that I had to eat properly. Nature has built in her own survival instincts for the sake of the baby.
We would go for long walks, my daughter in her pram and me pushing, chatting to her, laughing with her and watching her sleep.
The birth had been a long and difficult affair and there were feelings of isolation. I didn’t …
