I think me and my children must be very sheltered because when I read the title of your post I thought it was about the kind of after school clubs they go to, y’know cookery one day, art the next. I’d never really thought about the wrap-around clubs on offer in a lot of schools.

They’re not something I’d use, but you never know. Good to know they are there and very useful (although not available here at the mo).

And that video was very touching.

I agree about the socialising aspect, and I think they are a great option for working parents.

I’m sorry but this video has left me in tears. I have quite an attachment to my daughter’s pre/after school club and it means I don’t need to have a child minder or nanny and she’s in one place. I don’t use it all the time but couldn’t work if I didn’t have access to it. It’s a great place for children to socialise with children outside of their class and forge new friendships in a safe environment. The ladies who run it are totally dedicated to giving the kids a great environment to enjoy and play.

I work school hours so I don’t need to use it during term time.

However, I’m sending the 5 year old to the holday club run by the people who do the after school club. She’s only going for 7 days over the 6 week holiday. It’s a trial and it’s cheaper than sending her to the 3 year old’s childminder. She gets really bored at the OAP chilminders so I’m hoping she’ll get some extra stimulation.

Hi Erica, my view is a little different. IJ is nearly six and she’s been to her afterschool club three times. It’s excellent and I’d recommend it; however, I’ve only sent her when I’ve been away and haven’t been around to collect her on time. Unless it’s unavoidable I prefer to collect her at the end of the school day otherwise she’s completely exhausted and she’s spent all day with her friends anyway, th school day is a long one for her and you may find this when Erin states, so, for IJ at least, I think it’s best she comes home. I’m sending her for a few half days in the summer holidays so she doesn’t get bored and I’m happy to do that.

Thanks Laura, I think most after school clubs focus on team sports, arts and games and the focus is on socialising so I think a couple of times a week could be quite fun for a kid.

Well i don’t have any children in school yet but i don’t see why not? I guess it depends on what they are and why you send them , i mean why send your math hating kid to maths club .
I think they could be fun
