Disney Diary: The Flying Fish Cafe

For anyone who thinks Disney is all burgers and hotdogs, think again. I enjoyed some of the tastiest food I’ve ever had in Disney World, and I have the pictures to prove it!

Our first night we headed down to the Boardwalk, an area I hadn’t been before, it was all twinkly lights and romance, there were newly weds strolling around, how did I know they were newly weds? why the matching ‘Mr & Mrs’ mickey ears of course. So sweet. Alex, do you fancy renewing our vows in six weeks time? (I’m not holding my breath, marrying me once was enough methinks!). After Becky snapped a few photos of the loved up couples we headed for The Flying Fish Cafe, one of Sarah’s personal favourites, I’m not a huge fan of fish in fact I only began eating white fish the week I went away, that actually did me a bit of a favour as I ended up choosing the most amazing main course ever, but I’ll come to that in a minute.

One of the things I loved (I actually loved everything) about being a VIP (were we VIP’s? No idea, but it felt like it) was the opportunity to meet some of the chefs and managers at the restaurants, they are uber passionate and really gave you an idea about what they and their establishment were about, yes, every place was unique, another Disney World misconception is that everywhere will be a variation on the last serving similar food in cloned surroundings, not true. If you like fine dining, Disney World is as good as anywhere.

If you like Stawberry Daquiris, America is the place to be. Me? I’m not a big drinker (cough) but I was looking forward to being old enough to drink alcoholic daquiri’s, last time I was here I was only seventeen :( So with Daquiri in hand I checked out our personalised menus.

The waiter brought over a pre-starter of seared tuna and caviar with radish, leaves and a spicy sauce. I gave it a try but wasn’t keen, which was completely down to my lack of love for fish, because everyonelse cleared theirs.

This was followed by my own choice mozzarella and tomato salad with 8 year old aged balsamic dressing. The mozarella was the best I’ve ever tasted, really creamy and soft.

An intermediate course of cassis sorbet, which was the best
sorbet I’ve ever tasted, noticing a pattern?

And finally, the best steak I’ve ever had, served with rainbow carrots, fingerling potatoes, beans and a sauce foyet. Which arrived with the largest steak knife I’ve ever seen, I wasn’t sure if they wanted me to eat my steak or kill the cow with it (sorry to any veggies).
