Mamma Mia & The Dark Knight
Phew… it’s been busy round here.? Between work and childcare we’ve had an impromptu family visit, the highlight of which was a ten hour long jaunt to the casino
? I’ve also taken in two movies, Mamma Mia and The Dark Knight, here’s what I made of them…
Mamma Mia
Well I was pretty sure in the first fifteen minutes that I would NOT make it to the end of this spectacle.? All singing, all dancing, 100% cheese it was a little to much…and then…I dunno…I just kinda got into it, I embraced the cheese and started to enjoy the impromptu singing…all except Pierce Brosnan, Pierce you are hot hot hot! But you CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT sing, it was a bridge too far.? Overall though, a lot of fun.
The Dark Knight
Wow! This one knocked my socks off, or rather one very special performance knocked my socks off.? The late Heath Ledger as The Joker was truly awesome, perhaps one of the best characterizations I’ve ever seen! The action scenes and effects were amazing and the storyline was thick with psychological drama.? The only disappointment was the weak part of the leading lady, the usually excellent Maggie Gyllenhaal had little to work with, with a script which was very thin and saw her appear in only a few scenes one of which a very cheesey “thanks for saving me” scene with Batman, a little too Lois Lane for my liking.? Overall, a must see.

I still haven’t been able to see Mama Mia — but I thoroughly enjoyed The Dark Knight. I watched it in IMAX and I have to say — it was simply amazing. I definitely wouldn’t mind watching this one again!
