7 Ways with Walnut Bread
I love walnut bread, but at ?1.19 for a small loaf it’s pretty expensive and I therefore have to ensure that when I do splurge I use every morsel….and because it’s yummy and I can’t bear to leave a crumb!
1. Simply sliced and eaten with quality butter, I like Lurpack.
2. Toasted with a little quality cheese.
3. Blended and used as breadcrumbs to top pies/pasta bakes.
4. Chopped chunky and dipped in olive oil and balsamic (I like raspberry vinegar too.)
5. Sliced and used for an open sandwhich.
6. Cubed, doused in olive oil and baked. Use these croutons in a nice salad, I like chicken and bacon salad or a simple green salad with parmesan and pine nuts.
7. Cubed and doused in olive oil with a slug of balsamic, bake, then plop into a nice bowl of tomato soup.
I’m drooling—wish you had a recipe for this stuff, it sounds terrific!
Ha! I’m not that good, I just buy it from Tesco….although you have got me thinking, it would be cheaper to make myself hmmmmm…….
Yes, there is something delicious about butter and top-quality bread. Does sound tasty!
Have you thought about buying a breadmaker? I got one for my birthday a few years back. Using it makes bread – especially fancy breads like walnut – so much cheaper. Only drawback is that you have to be quite organised to get all the flour etc bought beforehand. But you seem like an organised person! We don’t use ours so much now but got good value out of it overall.
I purchased a bread maker last year and it is fantastic – just load up and wait for a few hours. My kids have enjoyed making different kinds of bread so we have had great fun both cooking and eating it.
