I also use a spreadsheet so I can add the spend as we go so I have an up to date total of what has been spent so far at any time. It also keep strack of those frivolous things that you forget about!

We do use a spreadsheet to work out where money's going. But I could be a lot more organised. We don't budget specifically for things like car repair. And probably should!

I'm really interested to read all this stuff now. Of course as everyone talks of a recession and prices go up, we are all being hit harder. I am lucky to live in a two-salary household. But my partner's job ends in a few weeks' time and I am on a modest wage, paid by a business I am building. For me, the interesting thing is that however much my own family's finances improve after this time in the future, I can't see me going back to my old ways. That said, I added up incoming and outgoing money last weekend and as a family spend what some people may consider a lot on kids' activities and days out - but these will still be the last thing to go, I think!
