Today we’re moving on from affiliate marketing which has dominated the last two posts.

6. AdSense

The AdSense program run by google is probably the most well known amongst bloggers. You basically sign up and add some code to your blog’s template. Each time one of those ads is clicked you make money, usually a couple of cents. AdSense used to be extremely common until other ways of making money were created and found, like text link ads.

AdSense is very easy to use, however, it’s a lot more difficult to make a substantial amount of money, and by that I mean enough to even warrant a payout. If you have a blog that receives a lot of pageviews or you are lucky enough to own a forum then give it a go, otherwise I’d focus on other methods.

On a sidenote, there’s a general feeling that adsense can be a bit unsightly and therefore off putting to readers, you’ll need to make your own mind up about that.

Comments welcome….

still reading. i’ve wondered if adsense lets you choose where and how to display their ads. when i see them at the top of a blog post i find that a little annoying. but at the end or off to the side would be ok for me.

Hi Chickadee, you can choose where to put AdSense, they are often put in ipposing positions to encourage clicks, and in turn revenue. It can be irritating for the reader, and another reason why AdSense has fallen out of favour recently.

I found you from the guest post at Scribbit, and I’ve enjoyed reading around on your blog so far. I don’t have enough traffic on my own site to make any money yet, though these are interesting ideas. I did post a comment way down on your organic egg post, since that’s something I can actually respond to! :) I’m looking forward to reading more here.

PS I had one of the loveliest vacations of my life camping in Scotland. I would go back on a moment’s notice if I could.

Your blog looks like it’s doing quite well, you have regular comments anyway which is always a good sign :)

Hi,

I am just dropping by from BMM. I love these blogging income posts you’re doing. My blog is just over a month old, but it’s nice to see someone else’s experiences with these techniques.

Personally, I think I’ll give Adsense a miss. Those boxes look terribly depressing.
