In the last post I suggested you build a sponsors page with an automated purchasing system, so that advertisers can buy direct and immediately. So what if at first nobody uses the automated system…or doesn’t know it’s there?
3. Pursue Private Advertising
Trawl the web and your local area for small companies that are in your niche. Grab their email and send some emails letting them know that your amazing site has opened its doors to specially selected businesses for advertising. Offer a free trial, discount, 2 for 1, do what you have to do to get them to give it a go. If they get good value the likelihood is they’ll use the automated system next time, and hopefully tell their friends too!
I have had some success with this, I don’t have exact figures but I’d guess that I had about a 5% success rate. Or 1 in 20 emails resulted in a deal. Remember that the money made from these deals was all mine to keep, no 50/50 split deals here. The most difficult thing is to offer value once a sale has taken place, therefore I’d recommend this method to anyone with good subscriber numbers and visitor stats and a tightly focussed niche. It’s a little more work initially, but worth it if you find repeat customers.
Questions and discussion welcome…

One Response to “Ten Tips to Increase Your Blog’s Income”
I’ve redone mine and will have to see if it helps. I got rid of my blogger navbar so my ads are higher, redid a few things to get them higher on the page and posted the link to ad info more prominently.
