Summer is almost here, I have already been caught short during April when we had some amazing weather and I was out without any sun protection, Tsk Tsk, there go those mothering standards again. I’m now armed with the suncream and hat at all times, but is it enough?

Sun safety week begins on Monday 7th May so I thought it appropriate to mark it somehow.

I have done a little research and found that there are three main ways to protect yourself and your children from UV rays;

Clothing

Keeping shoulders covered, wearing sun hats, sunglasses and protective clothing ie tightly woven fabric or specialist UV swimwear.

Suncream

Suncream should be applied every 2-3 hours and should be at least SPF15.

Lifestyle

Avoid the sun between 11am - 3pm.

* Children’s skin can burn in 10 minutes

* A baby’s skin can burn in an instant

Littlemummy.com has teamed up with the Beach Factory (which just so happens to have been founded by two mums!) to offer free suncream on all orders over £35 (just mention littlemummy.com).

The Beach Factory stocks a huge variety of kit for summer. Their sun protection swimwear includes one piece swimsuits, wetsuits, board shorts etc… it’s all really cool and in the surfy style designs that have been in fashion for some time now. Their range of items includes accessories, beach towels & toys, not forgetting these super cute tents (they have a boys one too) which are made from UV protective material and at £24.95 would make a great present!
