How did we get here?

The first chapter covers (briefly) the various changes (and problems!) new parents face, usually unexpectedly!

It promises to take a balanced viewpoint, which it does throughout :)

we love our husbands and they love us

This is not a girls’ bitching session

Chapter Quote

An iron curtain of secrecy hides the reality…This Global Conspiracy of Silence means that most of us are ill-equipped to deal with the sea of change that a baby brings.

This is sooo true, I was nodding as I read it! My advice to new parents is to;

a) Read some mummy bloggers who detail exactly what they do everyday :) (try blogher).

and

b) Watch and observe. Do all the mums and dads you see look a little dishevilled? If they don’t, it’s an act :)

The book also offers lots of advice and suggestions to minimize the ‘shock and awe’ factor.

Take-Away Points

Don’t worry, all parents go through the same thing. You’re not alone. Let’s set about trying to fix it.

    Hi Erica,

    This is Cathy here, one of the authors of BPYM. Many thanks for reviewing it. Toes and fingers are crossed that you’ll like the other 6 chapters!! You are absolutely right, the “You are not alone” message is one of the most important themes in the book. So many women (and men) think that they’re the only ones not having sex/bickering about silly little things/feeling absolutely exhausted and some of us start to panic, even think that our marriages might be in trouble. When in fact we’re just crossing the very rocky threshold into parenthood. A transition that can take, I think, a couple of years. And of course we’re all the better for it, in the end!
    Thanks again and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the rest of the book.

    Cathy

    Hi Cathy,

    Thanks a lot for stopping by, havng an ‘insider’ viewpoint is great. It’s so interesting having thoughts from both the author (one of) and the reader.
