I finally got through to the college and spoke to a really nice woman about enrolling for the open learning core maths course.
I have already contacted ILA Scotland and was awarded £200 towards learning for this year. I’m guessing the course will cost around £75 of which I must pay the first £10. So far, so good. £10 and lots of commitment should see me through this first phase
I am worried that I have forgotten the maths I learned at school and fear this will be like starting over, I hope that with a lot of effort I can get through it. Of all the subjects my weakest is definitely maths so if I can navigate this part successfully then it will be a huge confidence boost. Luckily, I have a buddy up my sleeve who should be able to help if I find myself completely out of my depth.
**A quick note if you are living in Scotland and wish to learn something new, I’d highly recommend applying to ILA. They have two awards, £100, and £200, which is based on your earnings. The good news is you don’t (quite) need to be in the bread line to be eligible.

1Go Girl! You know, you may just find that as a “grown up” maths is a lot less scary than it was as a kid! Face it, you are more used to using maths “in real life” than you were age 11

3Wow, congratulations on a big step. Good luck, I bet a lot of the forgotten math will quickly come back to you. It’ll be good preparation for when Erin needs homework help in middle school

4I hadn’t really thought about that Michelle, but that should definitely be an extra incentive. Thanks
