Activity Days

26 February 2007 5 Comments

Finished!

We recently had a discussion at GNMParents about family nights, since, we have introduced something similar ‘Activity Days’.

Every so often when time and schedules allow we set aside a whole day (!) purely for fun. So far we have utilised the time doing craft activities, painting, and games. On these specially alloted days, housework and routine is thrown by the wayside and time is spent frivolously.

This time is important and I plan to continue with activity days for as long as Erin is interested in having them. I don’t want to look back and wish we’d spent more time having fun :)

You can find activity inspiration here.

“Time is spent frivolously”? “Frivolously”?!?!!! This might be the best, most important time you’re spending with Erin — it’s wonderful that you’re emphasizing fun and creativity with her. I hope you will continue to throw housework and routine by the wayside as often as humanly possible ….

You’re so right Leslie, I think it is society’s beliefs that make me feel that it is ‘frivolous’ to spend time with my daughter. Thanks

Nodding in complete agreement with both you and Leslie. Nothing frivolous at all about showing a child a whole day of loving attention! The dishes will still be there tomorrow and the world won’t end if the toys don’t get picked up. You’ve chosen the wiser path! Bravo!

First time visitor from the Carnival of Family Life. Great contribution!

What a great idea. I find that our lives are so full with stuff we have to do that we forget to take time to just have fun.
